Corporate tax registration in Dubai costs AED 0 in government fees. The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) doesn't charge anything to register you on EmaraTax. What business owners actually pay for is professional help, if they choose to use it, and the cost of getting the registration wrong. This guide breaks down both, so you can budget properly and compare quotes on what's included rather than the headline price.

Is corporate tax registration free in the UAE?

Yes. Registering for corporate tax through the FTA's EmaraTax portal is free for every type of taxable person: mainland companies, free zone companies, offshore companies, foreign branches and individuals. There's no application fee, no annual registration fee and no renewal fee. Your corporate tax registration certificate is also free to download once you're approved.

Two things are easy to confuse here:

  • The registration fee: what it costs to get a corporate tax registration number. The FTA charges nothing.
  • The tax itself: what you pay later on your profits. That's 0% on taxable income up to AED 375,000 and 9% above that, and many small businesses can reduce it to nil through Small Business Relief.

Being registered doesn't mean you'll pay tax. It means you're inside the system and can claim the 0% band and any reliefs you qualify for.

What you pay for when you use a professional

Most Dubai businesses use an accountant, a business setup firm or a registered FTA tax agent to register. Prices on UAE providers' websites vary widely. The table below shows the typical ranges advertised in the market and what usually drives each one.

Type of business

Typical professional fee seen in the market (AED)

What usually makes it this price

Single-owner company with clean documents

A few hundred to about 1,500

One owner, one licence, no branches

Company with several owners or a corporate shareholder

About 1,000 to 3,000

More IDs and ownership details to verify

Free zone company planning for the 0% QFZP rate

About 1,000 to 3,000

Licence data and year-end need planning for the QFZP position

Groups, branches or a foreign parent company

3,000 and above

Several licences, parent documents, more FTA questions

These ranges are indicative only. Some low-priced offers cover data entry and nothing else. Before you compare numbers, compare what's included.

What a proper corporate tax registration fee should include

  • A check of your exact registration deadline and whether you're already late
  • Review of your trade licence, MOA, owners' IDs and signatory authority before anything is entered
  • Setting up or using your EmaraTax account and taxable person profile
  • Entering activities, owners, branches and financial year so they match your licence
  • Submission and replies to any FTA request for more information
  • Handover of your corporate tax registration number and certificate, plus your first filing deadline

If a quote doesn't mention the FTA follow-up or the deadline check, ask. Those are usually the parts that save you money.

What changes corporate tax registration charges in Dubai

  1. Number of owners and signatories. Every owner with 25% or more and every authorised signatory needs verified details and documents.
  2. Legal structure. A mainland LLC, a free zone company, a branch of a foreign company and an individual all need different information on EmaraTax.
  3. Branches. Each branch licence and its activities are added to the single registration.
  4. Being past your deadline. Late cases need planning around the first tax return, so the AED 10,000 late registration penalty can be waived.
  5. Document condition. Expired licences, names that don't match across documents, or missing Arabic versions add work.
  6. Scope. Registration only, or registration plus bookkeeping and first-return planning.

The cost of getting it wrong

The registration fee is rarely the expensive part. These are the costs that catch businesses out:

Mistake

What it can cost

Registering after your deadline

AED 10,000 late registration penalty, unless it's waived through the first-return route

Not updating the FTA when your details change

AED 1,000, or AED 5,000 for a repeat within 24 months

Wrong financial year at registration

A separate FTA application to change it, and possibly a rushed first return

Wrong entity type or missing owners

Returned or rejected application and lost time against your deadline

If you're already late, read our guide to the corporate tax penalty waiver before you register. Timing your first return correctly can remove the AED 10,000 penalty completely.

DIY registration vs using a registered tax agent

Best for

One owner, one licence, documents in order

Several owners, free zone 0% planning, branches, late registrations

For a single-owner company whose documents are in good order, self-registration is realistic and costs nothing. For anything more complex, a professional fee is usually smaller than the cost of one avoidable error.

Corporate tax registration cost for a free zone company

The FTA fee is still AED 0. Professional fees can be slightly higher. That's because the registration should be set up with your Qualifying Free Zone Person position in mind: licensing authority details, activities, related parties and a year-end that leaves time for the audit QFZPs need. Our free zone corporate tax registration service is priced with that planning included.

Budgeting beyond registration: your first-year corporate tax costs

Registration is a one-time step. In your first year, plan for:

  • Bookkeeping, so your accounts support your tax return. See our bookkeeping services in Dubai.
  • Corporate tax return filing, due 9 months after your financial year ends. See corporate tax return filing.
  • Audit, if you're a Qualifying Free Zone Person or otherwise required to have audited accounts.
  • Any corporate tax due: 0% up to AED 375,000 of taxable income, 9% above. Businesses with revenue of AED 3 million or less may be able to elect Small Business Relief, now available for tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2029.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

No. There's no annual FTA fee to keep your registration. Your ongoing costs are compliance work such as bookkeeping and filing your return each year.

The FTA itself charges nothing. Government service centres that submit on your behalf may charge their own service fee, so ask before you apply.

The FTA fee is still AED 0, but you face the AED 10,000 late registration penalty unless you qualify for the waiver by filing your first return within 7 months of the end of your first tax period.

No. Registration only gives you a corporate tax registration number. Tax, if any, is calculated on your first tax return and is due 9 months after your financial year ends.

The PDF certificate on EmaraTax is free and accepted by most banks and authorities. If you need a printed copy from the FTA, check its current service options.
