Most UAE corporate tax registration applications that are rejected or sent back fail for the same reason: the details entered on EmaraTax don't match the documents. Common examples are a company name or incorporation date that differs from the trade licence, owners left out, or no proof that the signatory can act for the company. The fix is usually quick once you know exactly what the FTA is objecting to. Speed matters, though, because your registration deadline keeps running while the application is open.
Returned vs rejected: know which one you have
Outcome | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Additional information requested (returned for resubmission) | The FTA needs clarification or extra documents. The application stays open. | Correct only what's asked and resubmit within the time stated in the FTA's message |
Rejected | The application has been refused | Fix the underlying problem and submit a new application |
No response from you | An open request isn't answered in time | The application can be rejected, putting you back at the start |
Your first step is always the FTA's message in EmaraTax. It normally points to the section or document at fault. If you're not sure where to find it, see how to check your corporate tax registration status.
12 corporate tax registration rejection reasons and how to fix them
Details that don't match your documents
# | Reason | Fix |
|---|---|---|
1 | Company name differs from the trade licence (spelling, "LLC" vs "L.L.C.", English vs Arabic) | Enter the name exactly as it appears on the licence, in both languages where asked |
2 | Incorrect incorporation date | Use the date on the certificate of incorporation. If you don't have one, use the first licence issue date |
3 | Licence number or issuing authority entered wrongly | Copy them directly from the current licence |
4 | Business activities missing or different from the licence | Add every activity listed on the licence |
5 | Wrong entity type (mainland vs free zone, company vs individual) | Choose the type that matches your licensing authority and legal form |
Ownership and authority problems
# | Reason | Fix |
|---|---|---|
6 | Owners with 25% or more not listed | Add all qualifying owners with passport or Emirates ID details |
7 | Corporate shareholder entered without its details | Add the parent company's registration details and documents |
8 | No proof the signatory can act for the company | Upload the MOA clause, board resolution or power of attorney that gives authority |
Document and contact problems
# | Reason | Fix |
|---|---|---|
9 | Expired trade licence | Renew the licence first, then submit |
10 | Illegible, cropped or oversized uploads | Upload clear, complete scans within the portal's file limits |
11 | Documents only in a language the FTA can't accept without translation | Provide the required translation, for example of the MOA or power of attorney |
12 | Contact address is an agent's or accountant's, not your place of business | Use your actual business address |
How to fix a returned application, step by step
- Open the FTA's message in EmaraTax and write down exactly what's being asked.
- Gather the corrected document or detail. Don't change fields the FTA didn't question.
- Open the application, make the corrections and upload the documents.
- Re-read the whole summary page once more before you resubmit.
- Resubmit, keep the reference number and track the status until approval.
What to do after a rejection
- Read the rejection reason carefully. If it isn't clear, ask the FTA or your tax agent to explain it.
- Fix the root cause in your documents first. For example, renew the licence or prepare a signatory resolution.
- Submit a new application with all details matching your documents.
- Check your registration deadline. If it has passed, plan your first tax return so the late registration penalty can be waived.
A rejection isn't a penalty in itself. The risk is time. If your deadline passes before you're registered, the AED 10,000 late registration penalty can apply. It can still be waived if you file your first corporate tax return within 7 months of the end of your first tax period. Our corporate tax penalty waiver guide explains how.
A pre-submission checklist that prevents most rejections
- Lay your trade licence, MOA/AOA and owners' IDs side by side before you start
- Make sure the licence is valid for at least the next few weeks
- Write down every activity on the licence and every owner with 25% or more
- Decide your financial year first, because it sets your first filing deadline
- Prepare the signatory authority document before you begin
- Use one email address that someone checks daily for FTA messages
- Save the application as a draft and review the summary page before you submit
If your structure involves several owners, a foreign parent, branches or a free zone licence, having a registered FTA tax agent check the application is the most reliable way to avoid a rejection. See our corporate tax registration in Dubai service.
