Current Status by Program (2026)
None of the five established programs names Myanmar on a formal banned or restricted nationality list. This is the current position, which we reconfirm before every application:

In short: no Caribbean program formally restricts Myanmar applicants. Every program still applies standard due diligence, and given the current situation in Myanmar, expect closer attention to source of funds and identity verification than for a more stable nationality.
Why Applications Still Receive Close Attention
It is worth being clear about what is, and is not, driving this scrutiny. Sanctions imposed by the US, UK, EU, Australia, and Canada since 2021 target the military junta, military-linked companies, and specific officials responsible for the coup and subsequent crackdown, not Myanmar nationality as a whole. The EU's Myanmar sanctions regime has been extended through April 2027 on this targeted basis. Caribbean program caution reflects standard anti-money-laundering risk assessment and the practical difficulty of verifying documents from a country in active civil conflict, rather than any nationality-based exclusion.
Myanmar's Passport and Travel Restrictions
Since the compulsory military service law took effect in February 2024, the junta has tightened control over who can leave Myanmar. Passport conversions were suspended at points during 2024, men have at times been barred from working abroad, and in March 2026 the junta introduced a new passport law mandating a transition to biometric e-passports linked to a digital identification system by 2027, which human rights organisations have criticised as a further tool for controlling international travel.
None of this changes your eligibility for a Caribbean program, but it does affect practical timelines. A valid, current Myanmar passport is still needed to apply and travel, and if yours has expired or needs renewal, we recommend confirming your ability to obtain or renew it before committing to an application. A second citizenship does not exempt Myanmar citizens from national service obligations while inside Myanmar, and we recommend addressing your status with the appropriate authorities directly if this applies to you, rather than assuming a foreign passport changes it.
Myanmar's Currency Controls
The Myanmar kyat has fallen by roughly 80 percent against the US dollar since the 2021 coup. The junta's Foreign Currency Management Law criminalises holding foreign currency without authorisation, and authorised banks are generally limited to selling no more than USD 500 to an individual travelling abroad. This makes funding a Caribbean citizenship application directly from money inside Myanmar considerably more complex than from most other countries.
As with other clients facing capital controls, we generally find it more straightforward when the qualifying investment is funded from income or assets already held outside Myanmar, including in the UAE or elsewhere in the GCC.
Documents Myanmar Applicants Typically Need
- Valid passport with at least 6 months' remaining validity, plus a recent passport-size photograph
- Birth certificate and, where applicable, marriage certificate, translated and attested where required
- Police clearance certificates from Myanmar and every other country of residence over the past 10 years
- Bank statements and supporting evidence for every source of the qualifying investment
- UAE or GCC residence visa, salary certificate, or trade licence, where relevant to the source-of-funds picture
- Medical certificate and, on most programs, a mandatory interview for the main applicant and dependents aged 16 or older
