Power of Attorney Dubai Online: The E-Notary Option
You can now notarise a POA in Dubai entirely online through the UAE's E-Notary system, operated under the Ministry of Justice. In practice, this means:
- The principal verifies their identity digitally, typically via UAE Pass, rather than presenting original documents at a counter.
- A recorded video call with a notary public confirms the principal's identity and their informed consent to grant the specific powers in the document — the same substantive check an in-person notary would run.
- A One-Time Password (OTP) sent to the principal's registered email and phone confirms execution.
- The notarised POA is issued digitally, carrying a QR code (or an approved digital signature) that lets banks, government departments, and courts verify it against the Dubai Courts record — no physical stamped copy is required to prove authenticity.
Documents notarised this way carry the same legal validity as an in-person notarisation. Online notarisation is well suited to POAs where all parties are reachable, comfortable with a video call, and don't need a same-day physical presence for an unrelated reason (for example, a bank that separately insists on an in-branch signing). Where a POA needs to be executed abroad instead — because the principal isn't in the UAE and won't be for the video call — the embassy route described below still applies.
How to Get a Power of Attorney in Dubai: Step by Step
- Draft. The POA is prepared with the scope of authority defined precisely, based on the type and purpose you need.
- Legal review. The draft is checked against UAE requirements and against what you actually intend to authorise, since these are not always the same thing in a first draft.
- Translation, if needed. A certified Arabic translation is prepared if the principal signs in another language, or if supporting documents are in a foreign language.
- Choose your notarisation route. A Dubai Courts public notary office, a licensed private notary, the online E-Notary system, or — for a principal abroad — a UAE embassy or consulate.
